Case Studies – Post Repair/Audit Inspection
Post Repair/Audit Inspection
Introduction
We were instructed by our principles to carry out a post repair inspection following recent accident repairs which have been completed.
We understand that the vehicle was involved in a road traffic incident as a result of which it suffered damage to the nearside front and rear doors and nearside rear wing of vehicle.
The vehicle is a Toyota Auris
Requirements
We were requested by our principles to arrange inspection of the vehicle and based on the findings prepare a post repair inspection/audit report.
From receipt of the original instructions contact was made via telephone, text and post with the Third party and an engineer inspection arranged.
Findings
Third Party Vehicle
On reviewing this matter, we have had sight of the following documents;
A copy of the repairer invoice and pre- repair images. The repair invoice totalled circa £4645.00 and included numerous new parts were claimed to have been fitted to the tune of £1850.00.
Our inspection of the vehicle took place as indicated above and we examined the vehicle carefully. Our inspection was of a visual nature only, and no dismantling of parts took place.
We confirmed that repairs had been carried out to the nearside of the vehicle as follows:
1) The nearside front wing was down for blending of the paint colour with new badge fitted. The nearside front wing was the original paint and original badge fitted and no work had been carried out to the panel.
2) The nearside front door was down for replacement with associated door seals, window channel rubbers and door frame stickers. The nearside front door displayed distortion through the panel, there were poor filler repairs carried out to the original damaged door, the inner door frame and seam sealer were also still damaged. There was grey paint primer visible to the inner door frame and door rubbers.
The external paint finish was of a poor standard.
3) The nearside rear door was down for replacement with associated door seals, window channel rubbers and door frame stickers.
The nearside rear door displayed distortion through the panel, there were poor filler repairs carried out to the original damaged door, the inner door frame and seam sealer were also still damaged.
There was grey paint primer visible to the inner door frame and door rubbers.
The external paint finish was of a poor standard, the stone chip foil was missing.
4) The nearside rear wing was down for replacement. The nearside rear wing dog leg section displayed very poor repairs carried out to the original rear wing panel. The nearside rear wing was still distorted with poor alignment to the adjacent nearside rear door.
The paint work was of a poor quality with paint lifting, there was paint over spray to the rear wheel arch liner and lower mud flap.
5) There was filler repair dust in the vehicle door shuts on the nearside of the vehicle.
6) The nearside sill panel had been poorly repaired and painted, the stone chip was missing from the repair process. This was not on the repairer invoice but had been carried out alongside the incident repairs.
Conclusions
Conclusions
From thorough inspection of the vehicle our Engineer concluded that the work carried out by the repairer was to a very poor standard.
Reviewing the schedule of work authorised, we advise no new parts had been fitted to the vehicle as per those stated in the invoice supplied!. The vehicle had been repaired to a poor standard indeed.
It was clear the invoice was submitted fraudulently to exaggerate the loss and attempt make false claims for expensive repairs!
